Purpose & Scope
To equip candidates with the skills to recognise mental health issues, provide first aid support, promote recovery, and guide individuals to appropriate services.
Content Overview
- Understanding mental health and wellbeing factors (e.g. stress)
- Common mental health issues: anxiety, depression, suicide, self-harm, eating disorders, substance misuse, psychosis
- Recognising early warning signs
- Applying the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan
- Using interpersonal skills (e.g. active listening)
- Responding to mental health crises to preserve life
- Signposting to support (e.g. self-help, employer, NHS)
- Supporting recovery
- Reducing stigma and discrimination
Duration
Minimum: 2 days (6 hours/day)
Target Audience
Operatives and supervisors in the construction sector
Entry Requirements

- Online or classroom-based
Renewal & Refresher
- No mandatory renewal
- Recommended refresher every 3 years (aligned with HSE guidance)
Assessment
Trainer must confirm all learning outcomes are met
